I was inspired by a recent Webinar by NEJM Catalyst on “Patient-centered Innovation.” It made me realize that this encompasses what I considered most important about my studies of artificial intelligence and healthcare. It’s apparent that patients and clinicians will benefit from generative AI using large language models. I present the SOAP method, a well-established system for managing patient information that will provide a framework for using AI effectively. I begin with the 3 most important use cases for AI in healthcare.

Services I Provide

Medical Writing - My storytelling career began with undergrad work in journalism, and expanded with training and experience in Clinical/Anatomic Pathology & Gen. Surgery. I’ve been writing and editing medical media for more than 18 years.

Editorial Services - I’ve work with several international scientific researchers who needed to optimize their articles for English-speaking audiences as well as conform to various publishing styles. My current work has expanded to artificial intelligence and its concomitant issues for researchers worldwide.

Business Strategy/Development - Finding new sales channels is necessary for the growth of a company. Sometimes a unique vision requires an outside influence.

Sales/Strategic Training - This includes materials for clinicians, patients, et al. My current work is developing curricula for instructing medical students about artificial intelligence.

Copywriting - Working for various pharm advertising agencies I developed a skill for both direct-to-consumer and direct-to-professional materials. Persuasive writing still needs to be factual, and use the appropriate language to be effective.

Branding Projects - I was brought in to work for an international branding agency in NYC. Their client, a lab instrument company, was purchasing DNA sequencing companies, and they needed someone to interview the various companies to produce a brochure that would represent their new branding effort.

Webinars & Zoom Meetings - I produced the first webinar for PalmOne describing clinical uses for their Treo smartphones. I helped dispel the notion that cell phones would interfere with monitoring equipment.

Web media - I created text and images for a laparoscopic surgeon’s website to explain this specialty.

Video scripts - I wrote scripts for scientific video meant to explain terminology and technology

CogSciAI Substack Newsletter - this free online newsletter examines cognitive science and the application of technology, with a focus on medical/health care artificial intelligence. Besides tracking the news and trends in cognitive science and artificial intelligence, I stay informed about the people, companies, organizations, and conferences emerging as leaders in this field. I also review the relevant media including books, film and articles.
